Team India’s leader of the bowling attack, Jasprit Bumrah, has defended his fielders despite multiple dropped catches in the ongoing Headingley Test against England in the new World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle.
Interestingly, as many as five chances went down. The first one came off Yashasvi Jaiswal, who dropped Ben Duckett in the gully. Later, Ravindra Jadeja dropped Duckett for the second time at the backward point.
Subsequently, Ollie Pope, who looked well set, was dropped by Jaiswal on 60. Later, Harry Brook nicked one to the slips, where it was dropped yet again by Jaiswal. However, Bumrah went on to defend his fielders, opting not to create a scene and putting pressure on them.
"I am disappointed for a second when catches are dropped. It's part and parcel of the game, and the guys are new and working so hard. I don't want to create a scene and put more pressure on them. Nobody is doing it intentionally. So they will learn from this experience," Bumrah said at the press conference at the end of the third day’s play.
Furthermore, Bumrah stated that the surface is still a good one for batters to score runs, for India to be in a better condition in the fourth innings. Also, he asserted that he is not thinking much about how many games he is going to play in the ongoing five-match Test series.
“There is a little bit of two-pace and the new ball might swing. But no demons. It’s a fast scoring ground. So the more runs we get, the better. You don’t look at what is going to happen. At this moment, I am trying to assess the wicket, and the batter. I am not thinking about how many games I am going to play,” he asserted.
