Jasprit Bumrah joins the Mumbai Indians squad for IPL 2025 ahead of the RCB clash

Ahead of the MI vs. RCB clash in the IPL 2025, the Mumbai Indians have announced that Jasprit Bumrah has joined the squad for the tournament. Bumrah was retained by the MI management for INR 18 crores before the mega-auction.

However, Jasprit Bumrah had missed the first three games for MI, as he has been injured since the Sydney test in Australia in January. He suffered a recurrence of back spasms and was at the NCA and Centre of Excellence rehabbing to avoid another surgery to his back. He also missed one year in 2022-23 due to back surgery.

Due to his condition, Bumrah missed the ICC Champions Trophy and the first three matches for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025. Ashwani Kumar and Satyanarayana Raju, two quick bowlers, were given their IPL debuts by MI in his absence, while Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar have led the pace attack.

Since making his IPL debut in 2013, Bumrah has been an essential member of the Mumbai Indians' bowling team. In 133 games, he has claimed 165 wickets. Due to a back issue, the pacer only missed the 2023 IPL season.

"The Lion is Back”- Jasprit Bumrah’s return announced by MI

The BCCI's Center of Excellence has given Bumrah medical clearance. He must, however, conduct match simulations before being declared fully fit to compete. When the Mumbai Indians face the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2025 Indian Premier League, the 31-year-old bowler could return to the starting lineup.

The Mumbai Indians announced Jasprit Bumrah's comeback to the team via social media in a video titled "Ready to Roar." The great pacer is certain to miss the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday, April 7, at Wankhede Stadium.

Sanjana Ganesan tells Angad about his father, Jasprit Bumrah, and his IPL career with the Mumbai Indians in the announcement video.

“Angad, let me tell you a story. In 2013, there was a cub who entered this jungle. A jungle full of runs, sixers, and boundaries. Where everyone was scared, he showed courage. Over the years, he fought many battles. He fought for survival; he fought for his pride.

Then he lost but never gave up. These battles left him with scars. But these scars didn’t stop him. Once a cub, now the lion. The lion is back. He is back to be the king of this jungle again,” Sanjana Ganesan, Jasprit Bumrah's wife, said.

Bumrah's return will be very helpful to MI, who have lost three of their first four T20 tournament games.

The return of the seasoned cricket player, who also provides expertise and composure under pressure, strengthens their bowling attack. The 31-year-old pacer, known for his precise yorkers and ability to shift momentum, could be the crucial component Mumbai needs to get their campaign back on track.
