Jasprit Bumrah will be available on July 10 now: Aakash Chopra

Former Indian cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra feels the Indian pacer spearhead Jasprit Bumrah would now be available for the third Test at Lord's in London as he is set to miss the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Notably, it was decided at the start of the series that Bumrah would be available only for three out of the five Tests on the England tour to manage his workload. Bumrah scalped a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the Leeds Test, but couldn't replicate his heroics in the second innings as England bagged a five-wicket win.

"Jasprit Bumrah will not be available. It's not official, but maybe it's official, for all we know. He will be rested for the second match and will directly play the third match, and you wonder, as there was a seven-day gap between the two matches, and he is not playing," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

With the second Test starting on Wednesday, July 2, and the third Test scheduled to take place at least two weeks away from now at Lord’s in London, Bumrah will get enough rest ahead of the big game at the home of cricket.

"Then there will be a five-day Test and a three-day gap. He will be available on the 10th of July now. That is a serious concern. If you need such big gaps, Bumrah's future as a Test cricketer will be an issue," he added.

It's important to note that Bumrah couldn't get enough support from other bowlers, namely Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur, and Ravindra Jadeja in the Leeds Test. There are reports that Kuldeep Yadav, the mainline spinner, is expected to make it to the XI while Arshdeep Singh is likely to replace Bumrah in the playing XI.
