Social media went crazy when Smriti Mandhana said she was calling off her wedding to music composer Palash Muchhal, and the drama hasn't stopped there.
Her close friend and teammate Jemimah Rodrigues uploaded a mysterious Instagram Story and discreetly unfollowed Palash just hours after the news broke, adding even more mystery to an already poignant scenario.
The plot has taken an unexpected turn thanks to remarks made by Smriti and Palash as well as fan ideas sparked by Jemimah's subtle actions. After officially addressing the rumors around their postponed wedding, Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal became the focus of news.
Both acknowledged via their Instagram Stories that the wedding had been formally canceled rather than merely postponed and that they were opting to proceed independently.
One of Smriti's closest friends, Jemimah Rodrigues, posted something during this time that became viral. Olivia Dean's 2025 hit song, Man I Need, was performed by a group of teenage singers on her Instagram Story.
Almost immediately, fans were aware of the words, particularly those that expressed the desire for someone to stand up, do something significant, and be the person one really needs. Additionally, Jemimah quit following Palash on Instagram, which fueled the continuing controversy.

Smriti Mandhana’s official statement:
“Over the past few weeks there has been plenty of speculation around my life and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time. I am a very private person and I would like to keep it that way but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off. I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the sane. I request you to please respect the privacy of both families at this time and allow us the space to process and move on at our own pace.”
“I believe there is a higher purpose driving us all and for me that has always been representing my country at the highest level. I hope to continue to play and win trophies for India for as long as possible and that is where my focus will forever be. Thank you for all your support. It’s time to move forward.”
