KL Rahul opens up on last over drama on Day 3

Team India opening batter KL Rahul, who bagged the honours of making it to the Lord’s honours board with an exceptional century on Day 3, has stated that Indian bowlers wanted to bowl two overs to take a wicket and take control of the game in the dying moments of the third day’s play.

Interestingly, India levelled England’s first innings score of 387 before getting bundled out. With six minutes left before stumps, England batters came out to bat. However, Zak Crawley was seen wasting a lot of time, which didn’t go down well with Shubman Gill.

Eventually, India could bowl only one over. Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and Gill were involved in a heated conversation with the England opening duo at stumps.

"There were six minutes left. It is a no-brainer that any team will bowl two overs with six minutes to go, but it was a bit of theatrics at the end,” KL Rahul said at the post-day press conference.

"We know how difficult it is for a batter to come to bat for two overs when you've been in the field all day. A wicket at the end of the day's play would've been perfect for us. Tomorrow, even without that, I think we would've been fired up anyway,” he added.

Being an opening batter himself, Rahul also sympathised with Crawley, stating that he knows exactly what was going on from an opener’s point of view. At stumps on Day 3, England were leading by two runs.

"What happened at the end is just part of the game now. I understand from an opening batter's point of view. I know exactly what was going on, and everyone knows exactly what was going on. But an opening batter will understand completely what happened in the last five minutes,” he concluded.
