With just over a month to the start of the IPL 2026, there is concern surrounding Royal Challengers Bengaluru's return to their home field, M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Since the Bengaluru stampede that followed RCB's IPL 2025 title victory, which left 11 people dead and numerous others injured, no games have been played in the legendary stadium. According to a recent update from Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, neither the RCB nor the Karnataka State Cricket Association appear to be happy with the "conditional permission" that the state government has granted.
According to reports earlier in January, RCB is terrified of the new law that the Karnataka government is enforcing in the wake of the Bengaluru stampede. According to a BCCI source, the law stipulates that the team performing at the location shall be held accountable for any events that occur on the roadways heading to the venue.
According to reports, the Mumbai Indians and the Mumbai Cricket Association had to grant the RCB a No Objection Certificate (NOC) before they could host part of their games at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
KSCA, RCB seek conditional permission to hold IPL 2026 matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium
KSCA and RCB representatives, including new KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad, met with Minister Parameshwara on Monday to request permission for the games to be played in the Chinnaswamy stadium, according to news agency ANI.
He stated that although a conditional authorization had been granted, the KSCA and RCB had been given till Wednesday to discuss the matter.
The BBMP commissioner, the police commissioner, and the law representatives have been called, according to the Karnataka Home Minister, and a decision on the matter would be made on Wednesday after all the advantages and disadvantages have been considered.
“The IPL matches are approaching. KSCA President Venkatesh Prasad, spokesperson Vinay and RCB representatives met me. They asked me for permission, and we have given conditional permission. But they are saying this has to be discussed, so I gave them time until Wednesday. We are calling the BBMP commissioner, the Police commissioner, and the Law representatives. So on Wednesday, we will take a call. Discuss all pros and cons,” G Parameshwara told ANI.
