“Shubman Gill knows how to lead” - Kuldeep Yadav backs new Indian Test captain ahead of England tour

With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announcing their retirements from the longest format of the game, the BCCI selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has decided to appoint Shubman Gill as the new Indian Test captain for India’s upcoming England tour, scheduled to start on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.

Kuldeep Yadav, who is about to play a pivotal role in the playing XI for Team India after the retirement of Ravichandran Ashwin, has stated that Shubman Gill knows how to lead as the batter learned the captaincy tricks after playing under captains like Rohit Sharma.

“Shubman knows how to lead. He has worked with a lot of captains, especially Rohit bhai, and learned from them. What I have seen so far is that he is very motivated. He is focusing on lifting the spirit of the team. He is ready for the job,” Kuldeep is quoted as saying by PTI.

Furthermore, Kuldeep also reckoned that the wickets in England are supporting spinners. While there was assistance for pacers initially, Kuldeep asserted that as the game progressed, there was spin and bounce on offer for spinners.

“The wickets are looking good for spinners. It has been good for batting (in IntraSquad game here). First day there was moisture, seamers got help but as the game progressed, spinners got in the game,” Kuldeep added.  

“There is bounce for spinners on this surface. Today is day three, I am yet to bowl. The ball is turning a bit and I hope it is the same in the series as well,” Kuldeep stated.

With Ravi Ashwin not part of Team India anymore, Kuldeep stated that he is having regular chats with the all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja both on and off the field. Moreover, he added that they are talking about field placements as well.

“Playing alongside Jaddu bhai is an honour. Jaddu and Ash have been brilliant for India. When I made my debut they helped me a lot. I am now having regular chats with Jaddu bhai on how to bowl to certain batters. I am spending a lot of time with him both on and off the field. It helps me a lot tactic wise. We have been talking about field placements and he has given me clues as well,” Kuldeep concluded.
