With 24 days of exciting Twenty20 cricket, the sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) will be the longest season in the competition's history. It will take place from December 1 to December 23, 2025. Ahead of a significant cricketing year, the expanded schedule is expected to increase rivalry among the five franchises and give players important match exposure. This edition represents a significant turning point in the league's development since its founding and is positioned as a major prelude to the 2026 Cricket World Cup.
There will be twenty league matches and four knockout games in this edition, which will be held at three prestigious locations: the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, and the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium in Dambulla.

Fans in the region will be even more excited as Indian cricket players are anticipated to participate for the first time; their identities will be made public soon. LPL Tournament Director Samantha Dodanwela stated, “The timing of this edition has been carefully chosen to ensure that players gain maximum exposure and high-quality match practice in the lead-up to a global cricketing year. Over the seasons, the LPL has emerged as a breeding ground for fresh talent, with several youngsters making their mark alongside international stars. This year too, we believe the league will throw up exciting new names who can go on to spring surprises on the world stage ahead of the World Cup.”
All five franchises will face off against one another twice during the league round under the tournament system. The top four teams advance to the playoffs at the conclusion of the round-robin phase. The top two teams will compete in Qualifier 1, the first playoff round, with the victor advancing directly to the championship game. In order to select the second finalist, the third and fourth-place teams will compete in the Eliminator. The winner of that matchup will then play the Qualifier 1 loser in Qualifier 2.
