Just before the historic Women's Ashes Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Australian cricket pioneer Christina Matthews was admitted into the esteemed Australian Cricket Hall of Fame. It is important to remember that Christina, who served as Australia's vice-captain, had a lengthy career as a cricket administrator. Given that the MCG is the location of her 1988 World Cup victory, Matthews, who had a distinguished career as a wicketkeeper and cricket administrator, accepted her award outside the stadium.

Speaking of Christina's achievements in cricket, she has participated in the most Test matches for her nation (20 to date). She now ranks sixth overall in the world for this accomplishment. She holds the record for most wicketkeeping dismissals in women's Test history with 58. She was a key member of Australia's 1988 World Cup victory at the MCG and played 47 ODIs over her 1984–1995 career.

Christina Matthews's Milestone:

In addition to having the most dismissals in women's Test history (58), Matthews also owns the record for the most Test matches played by an Australian woman (20). She played for the Australian side that won the 1988 Women's World Cup at the MCG, and her career lasted from 1984 to 1995. Matthews played 47 ODIs in addition to her Test accomplishments, and she played a significant role in determining the direction of women's cricket in Australia.

ESPNcricinfo quotes Christina saying, "And being from Melbourne myself, the MCG looms large as kind of the iconic ground in the world. So to be part of this and to be recognized in such a great environment is just incredible. I did play World Cup final here, which we won in 1988 and I think I spent the whole day just looking around. There'll be plenty more people here today than there were then. But to get to play on this ground was an unbelievable dream."
