Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are entering IPL 2026 as the defending champions, and to that end, they added a few exciting names in the mini-auction to build another competitive squad. However, they grabbed headlines at the auction by spending INR 5.2 crore on left-arm all-rounder Mangesh Yadav from Madhya Pradesh.
As quoted by ESPN, speaking about his feelings on the RCB deal, he said: “I've received more calls than I ever have previously. But these are things I'll have to deal with going forward.”
He also said that he feels blessed to have guidance from players like Rajat Patidar, Venkatesh Iyer, and Anand Rajan, a former Madhya Pradesh seamer. At RCB, Mangesh will play under the leadership of Patidar, while Venkatesh Iyer has also been roped in by the franchise for the upcoming season.
“I didn't know how all of this feels, but I'm blessed to have a lot of people from my own state, like Rajat [Patidar] bhaiyya, Venky [Iyer] bhaiyya, and Anand Rajan [former Madhya Pradesh seamer] sir, for guidance. Not having to ask my father for money felt like an achievement. Today, I still don't know how to process the feeling of getting such a massive bid. I want to make my parents feel comfortable. For that, I have to work hard and can't get carried away,” he added.
He also spoke about the struggles his parents went through. “My mother used to lob balls at me in front of our house in Boragaon when I was seven. That's how I started. My father drives trucks. I realised the value of money and hard work when I saw him wake up every morning at 3 am and drive through the day on dangerous roads,” he said.
“I've imagined how it'll be like wearing the RCB jersey” - Mangesh Yadav
It was during the Madhya Pradesh T20 League 2025 that he caught attention. Mangesh picked up 14 wickets in six games for Gwalior Cheetahs and was named Player of the Tournament. IPL scouts then noticed him, and eventually he ended up giving trials with the Mumbai Indians, RCB, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals.
Mangesh also mentioned how he has already imagined marking his run-up while wearing the iconic red and gold RCB jersey.
“I've imagined how it'll be like wearing the RCB jersey and standing at the top of my run-up. But I've also imagined picking wickets and winning games for MP. That is my primary goal,” he said.
