Michael Clarke, Australia’s 2015 ICC World Cup winning captain, has shared his picks for the T20 World Cup 2026 finalists. He has chosen Suryakumar Yadav-led India and Mitchell Marsh-led Australia as the teams that will play the final of the T20 World Cup on March 8.
The 20-team tournament will begin on February 7 with India and Sri Lanka playing hosts. India is the defending champions, having won the tournament in 2024 in USA and West Indies.
The hosts have been placed in Group A, alongside Pakistan, the USA, the Netherlands, and Namibia. Meanwhile, Australia finds itself in Group B with Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Oman.
India has won the T20 World Cup twice in 2007 and 2024, while Australia managed one title win in 2021 under Aaron Finch’s captaincy.
In whatever format of the game, the Australians are without a doubt one of the most difficult opponents in ICC competitions. But in the game's shortest format, the formidable Australians have failed to live up to their reputation.
The men in blue, on the other hand, have advanced to the ICC T20 World Cup knockout stages multiple times and won the title twice, first in 2007 with captain MS Dhoni and again in 2024 under captain Rohit Sharma.
India and Australia- Michael Clarke’s choices for T20 World Cup 2026 finalists
Australia won the title with a strong performance during the 2023 ODI World Cup in Ahmedabad, the last time India and Australia faced off in an ICC event final. Men in Blue would be preparing to make history and aim to be the first side to win the T20 World Cup at home and defend their title.
Australia and India will be the two finalists for the ICC event, according to former Australian captain Michael Clarke. He overlooked South Africa, England, and New Zealand in favor of a final position, which made his forecasts sound a little bold.
Michael Clarke shocked Pakistan with a direct statement just before the ICC T20 World Cup, when India and Pakistan are preparing for another match and the supporters are looking forward to the eagerly awaited match.
Clarke emphasized how India has dominated the T20 World Cups, defeating them six times with only one loss.
“Everyone wants to see it tight. But India has outplayed them (PAK) over a long period of time. Pakistan has not even been close. Pakistan needs to be able to deal with the pressure of playing India and that rivalry,” he said on Beyond23 Cricket Podcast.
India has won six matches against Pakistan in T20 World Cups, while losing only once, in 2021 T20 World Cup in Dubai. One game has ended in a tie.
