Australian captain Mitchell Marsh has stated that his team members would respect the criticism back home in Australia after the team’s early exit from the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Notably, Australia started the showpiece event on a winning note against Ireland, but they suffered two consecutive defeats against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, suffering an early elimination after the group stage.

Speaking at the toss ahead of their game against Oman, Marsh clarified that the team would reflect on ways to get better moving forward. He went on to add that every member of the contingent was disappointed with the early exit.

"Yeah, we certainly respect the noise back home when things don't quite go to plan for us as a team. We sort of know that's coming, we respect it. We reflect on ways to get better moving forward. But the last couple of days, obviously, a really disappointed group to not make it through the Super 8s,” Marsh said at the toss ahead of the game against Oman.

Shifting our focus to the group stage game between Oman and Australia, the former batted first and posted 104 runs in 16.2 overs. Adam Zampa was the wrecker-in-chief with a four-wicket haul, conceding 21 runs in 3.2 overs.

In response, Australia finished off the game in 9.4 overs with nine wickets in hand, ending the tournament on a winning note. Mitchell Marsh (64*), and Travis Head (32) were the top batters in the chase.

Australia entered the campaign without their pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood. While Starc retired from the format, Cummins and Hazlewood got injured, which ruled them out of the event.
