Former Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir has taken a vile dig at the Indian dashing opening batter Abhishek Sharma, terming him a slogger and not technically sound. Interestingly, his comments came right before the marquee clash between the arch-rivals.
India will lock horns with Pakistan in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday, February 15, in Colombo. Speaking exclusively on a Pakistani sports show, Amir has reckoned that he would consider Abhishek Sharma as a proper batter only when he tackles the swing early on in the innings.
“By whatever little I have seen, if you ask me honestly, I feel he is just a slogger… I don’t think he is technically sound. He just stands there and wants all balls to be bowled in a particular area. I will consider him a proper batter only when I see that the ball is swinging even slightly and he tackles it well.” Amir said on a Pakistani channel.
For the unversed, Sharma is a doubtful starter against Pakistan after he suffered a stomach infection. While he was discharged a day before the game against Namibia, he missed the second group stage clash.
"As far as I have spoken to him, he looks good. He did some practice today also. He told me he is on the way," Varun Chakravarthy said after the game against Namibia.
According to various reports published on Indian media, Abhishek lost a bit of weight as well. During the toss vs Namibia, India captain Suryakumar Yadav made it clear that the batter might miss a game or two.
"Abhishek isn't fine still, might take one or two games," skipper Suryakumar Yadav said at the toss against Namibia.
