Indian speedster Mohammed Shami has finally opened up on his non-selection for the upcoming three-match ODI series and T20I series, which is scheduled to start on October 19 Down Under.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Shami has asserted that he has been match fit after playing numerous domestic games of late, adding that he has been in complete rhythm while bowling. Interestingly, Shami has been omitted from the national team since the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai.

"There have been many rumors and memes. People want to know my opinion on the non-selection for the Australia series. I will just say that getting selected is not in my hands; it's the job of the selection committee, coach, and captain. If they feel I should be there, they will select me, or if they feel some more time is needed, it's in their hands. I am ready and practicing," Shami said on his YouTube channel.

"My fitness is also good. I will try to do better because when you are away from the ground, you need to remain motivated. I played in the Duleep Trophy. I felt very comfortable, my rhythm was good, and I bowled around 35 overs. There are no issues with my fitness,” he added.

Interestingly, Shami’s exclusion from the Anderson Tendulkar Trophy 2025 in England didn’t go down well with many in the Indian cricketing fraternity. However, the selectors made it clear that the pacer wasn’t fit enough to bowl long spells in the longest format of the game.

Nevertheless, he took part in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy 2025-26 campaign and bowled longer spells to prove his fitness. Most recently, he has been excluded from the Asia Cup 2025 campaign, with Harshit Rana getting a nod ahead of him.
