Team India’s five-match Test series against England in England is set to begin on 20 June 2025. But ahead of that huge series, their strength and conditioning coach, Soham Desai, announced his departure on 31 May.
On his Instagram, he shared a heartfelt post where he was seen thanking the Indian team management for the opportunity and the achievements he had been part of with the team. Since Ravi Shastri’s tenure, he has been a part of the Indian team and recently also tasted success in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
But still, it turned out not to be enough to get his contract renewed or extended, as he is now set to go as his contract expires. In the long note, he wrote: "What an honour and privilege it’s been to serve Indian Cricket over the years. From day one, the vision was crystal clear — break mental barriers, chase global excellence, stay true to my values, never fear failure. Keep showing up, no matter what.”
Desai also thanked the former Team India coaches, Ravi Shastri and Rahul Dravid, and former Test skippers, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, for backing him to have an impact on the world stage.
“Forever grateful to @ravishastriofficial and @virat.kohli for backing a 29-year-old coming onto the world stage with a dream. To #RahulDravid and @rohitsharma45 — What can I say? Your faith, support, and trust have shaped every step of this journey. Can’t thank you guys enough," he added.
"A big shout out to the physios, sports therapists, operations team and team doc — I could only do what I did because of your relentless support. Thank you for always being there," Desai concluded.
Regarding that announcement, Team India pacer Mohammed Siraj was also seen sharing a heartfelt note, writing: "It’s never easy to say goodbye to someone who’s been more than a coach, who’s been a guide, a mentor, a brother. This is not the end but see you later. Your impact will stay with me forever. Your absence will be felt in the dressing room, in the gym, and in every sprint we run.”
BCCI are yet to announce the next strength and conditioning coach of Team India.
