The Asia Cricket Council (ACC) Chief Mohsin Naqvi refused to hand over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to India. However, a Pakistani media report has stated that Naqvi has instead directed Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian T20I captain, to collect the trophy in person from the ACC office.

For the unversed, India refused to collect the trophy from the ACC chief amid India’s political tensions with Pakistan. However, the Indian team requested the trophy to be handed over by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) vice chairman Khalid Al Zarooni.

On the other hand, Mohsin Naqvi, who was part of the presentation ceremony on the podium, left the venue with the Asia Cup silverware and medals to the hotel, which wasn’t received well by the BCCI officials.

Also, the Pakistani media reported that Naqvi rejected the BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla’s repeated demands to hand over the trophy. Additionally, the Pakistani media channel Geo Super, the BCCI officials, who attended the virtual ACC meeting, demanded that the trophy be given to the International Cricket Council (ICC) headquarters instead.

A few hours later, the BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia came out hard at Naqvi for his childish act of taking the trophy and medals to his hotel.

"We have decided not to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the senior leaders of Pakistan. That was a conscious decision," Saikia said.

"This does not give him the right to take the trophy and the medals with him. It is extremely unfortunate and unsportsmanlike. We hope the trophy and medals will be returned to India as soon as possible," he stated.
