When Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) eventually won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title in the 2025 season, former Indian team captain and five-time IPL champion skipper of the Chennai Super Kings squad, MS Dhoni, expressed his feelings.

CSK fan favorite Thala acknowledged that, as a competitor, he could never have envisaged another club winning the IPL while congratulating RCB on their historic success.

Dhoni was questioned about RCB finally winning the IPL title in 2025 after an 18-year wait during a recent fan interaction session. The former captain of India celebrated the victory, praised the Bengaluru team's cricketing prowess, and highlighted the commitment of the team's supporters in spite of years of heartache.

"If I'm part of CSK, I can't imagine any other team winning the IPL. But it was long-awaited, and they played very well. Big congratulations to them, and I said it even then. But the whole thing is when you are a participant in the competition, you want your team to win. It doesn't always work in your favor, but what went wrong, and what can we learn from the other teams? That is also crucial in a tournament like this," Dhoni stated at an IndiGo event.

The 42-year-old also expressed gratitude to RCB's fans, who are thought to be among the most fervent in the IPL.

Big congratulations to you. RCB fans have been brilliant. Every time there is a game, they come and support their team, even when the chips are down,” Dhoni said.

On June 3, 2025, RCB defeated Punjab Kings by six runs in a thrilling final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, ending their protracted quest for an IPL championship. Under the direction of Rajat Patidar, who took over as captain from Faf du Plessis, RCB reorganized their team, filled in long-standing holes, and discovered reliable game-winning players in every department.

There were many significant moments during their championship-winning campaign. RCB defeated the Mumbai Indians in the Wankhede Stadium for the first time since 2015 and CSK at the Chepauk for the first time since 2008. Bengaluru have overcame the curse after losing three IPL finals in a row, giving the supporters their eagerly anticipated first title.
