Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has opened up on the reason behind his side suffering a defeat to the Rajasthan Royals by six wickets. While CSK had an exceptional outing with the willow, they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, which bothered the skipper.
While Ayush Mhatre (43), Dewald Brevis (42), and Shivam Dube (39) scored important runs, other experienced and young batters failed to create an impact as CSK eventually posted only 187/8 in 20 overs.
“If you look at the amount of runs we had put on the board, it was very good, but you got to see the wickets column as it puts pressure on the lower-middle order that you might not bat 20 overs. I think Brevis' innings was very nice, he was taking chances and I feel run-rate was nice, that's the phase we want to improve slightly. I felt the run-rate was up but where we lacked was losing 1-2 extra wickets,” MS Dhoni said at the post-match presentation.
Furthermore, Dhoni hailed Anshul Kamboj, who got exceptional swing with the new ball and could also bowl amazing yorkers. He conceded only 21 runs in three overs, picking up the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal for 36 runs. Furthermore, Dhoni felt Kamboj needed someone from the other end to properly support him.
“He (Kamboj) is someone who doesn't get swing, but he gets some seam movement, the ball hits you harder than the speed gun suggests, he has taken the responsibility and he is someone who can bowl good yorkers,” he added.
“That's (powerplay) one area where there's a hole for us, we don't want to give away too many runs in the first six overs. He has bowled three overs in the powerplay, which I feel is tougher when the ball isn't moving much and when the batsmen are well set,” he concluded.
