Mushfiqur Rahim bids farewell to ODI Cricket

Bangladesh cricket stalwart Mushfiqur Rahim has announced his retirement from One-Day Internationals (ODIs), bringing an end to an illustrious career that spanned nearly two decades. The wicketkeeper-batsman made his decision public through a heartfelt message on social media on Wednesday, March 5, following Bangladesh's disappointing exit from the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025.

Mushfiqur, known for his resilience and dedication, admitted that the past few weeks had been particularly tough, leading to his decision to step away from ODI cricket.

"I am announcing my retirement from the ODI format as of today," Mushfiqur stated in his post. "While our achievements may have been limited on a global level, one thing is certain: whenever I stepped onto the field for my country, I gave more than 100% with dedication and honesty."

A remarkable career comes to an end

Mushfiqur made his international debut in 2005 and entered the ODI scene the following year in 2006. He rose to prominence with a memorable unbeaten 56 against India in the 2007 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, helping Bangladesh pull off a stunning upset. Over the years, he became a cornerstone of Bangladesh's batting lineup and also led the team as captain in various phases of his career.

By the end of his ODI journey, Mushfiqur amassed an impressive 7,795 runs in 274 matches, including nine centuries and 49 half-centuries. His contributions were pivotal in Bangladesh's rise as a competitive force in international cricket.

Reflecting on his decision, Mushfiqur expressed his gratitude to those who supported him throughout his career.

"The last few weeks have been very challenging for me, and I have come to realize that this is my destiny. I would like to deeply thank my family, friends, and my fans for whom I have played cricket for the last 19 years."

While his ODI career has come to a close, Mushfiqur remains one of Bangladesh's most accomplished cricketers, and his impact on the game will be remembered for years to come. Fans will now look forward to his future contributions, whether in other formats or beyond the cricket field.
