On Day 2 of the second Test at Edgbaston, England finally made progress before lunchtime, with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja's outstanding innings ending just 11 runs short of his sixth Test century. Following up his 41-run overnight total, Jadeja and Shubman Gill faced England's bowlers in a pivotal 203-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

Ravindra Jadeja and Shubman Gill had formed an incredible 203-run partnership, thus it was a momentous occasion. Jadeja's solid, consistent innings included ten fours and a six. On Day 2 in Birmingham, he was dismissed soon before lunch, but his innings put India in a strong position. Shubman Gill also performed admirably. He brought up the 200-run stand by smashing a powerful sweep shot off Shoaib Bashir for six. He was still undefeated on 168 at lunch and appeared composed and in control.

Ravindra Jadeja Denied Fifth Test Ton:

With a flick off his pads, the southpaw reached his fifty off eighty balls. He was at ease at the crease and even signalled early in the day by smashing Shoaib Bashir for a massive straight six. But Josh Tongue's unexpected bouncer was what ultimately put a stop to his innings. Tongue startled Jadeja with a flawless short delivery that came from around the wicket. The left-hander was only able to glove it to keeper Jamie Smith after attempting to push it away while leaping in the crease. Jadeja scored 89 runs off 137 balls, including six and ten boundaries.

With Gill set, India will want to take a significant lead, even though Washington Sundar appeared a little unsteady against the bouncers. Like in Leeds, England, will be looking for a swift collapse. India suffered a setback when Jadeja was fired, but they are now in a solid position thanks to his significant collaboration with Gill. In this important Test, India will try to maintain their lead and make things difficult for England, especially as Gill is still batting with confidence.
