Mustafizur Rahman, a pacer from Bangladesh, talked about being released by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. In the midst of controversy over his participation in the 19th edition of the event, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ordered the team to cut ties with the 30-year-old.
In response to growing Indian dissatisfaction over the persecution of religious minorities in Bangladesh, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia revealed in a media statement that the cricket governing body has urged the Knight Riders to release Mustafizur. In an official statement released in the afternoon, KKR acknowledged that it had let go of Bangladesh's brilliant left-arm fast bowler in accordance with BCCI directives.

In a statement, he said, "Kolkata Knight Riders confirms that BCCI/IPL, as the regulator of IPL, has instructed it to release Mustafizur Rahman from the squad ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The release has been carried out following due process and consultations, upon the instruction of the Board of Control of Cricket in India. BCCI will allow Kolkata Knight Riders a replacement player in line with IPL regulations, and further details will be communicated in due course."
After a Hindu man was recently killed in Bangladesh, the BCCI and KKR were under increasing pressure. Due to Mustafizur's presence in the team, other organisations also targeted Bollywood star and KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan. Following a fierce bidding war with Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals at the players' auction last month, KKR purchased the 30-year-old left-armer's services for Rs 9.20 crore from a base price of Rs 2 crore.
In the International League T20 (ILT20) 2025–2026, Mustafizur was in incredible form, taking 15 wickets in eight games. He presently plays for the Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He has taken six wickets this season in his first three games for the team.
