The list of commentators for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which India and Sri Lanka will co-host, was released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday. Several well-known figures are on the roster, including Ian Bishop, Michael Atherton, Mpumelelo Mbangwa, Ian Smith, and Ravi Shastri.
It also features former England captain Nasser Hussain, who recently made news for the remarks he made about the ongoing boycott between India and Pakistan. In those remarks, he asked whether the ICC would have acted similarly against India if they had refused to play in a particular nation during a World Cup.
Hussain, who is widely considered to be one of the most respected commentators in the game, recently caused a stir when he criticised the global governing body and supported Bangladesh's decision to skip their trip to India before they were replaced by Scotland in the 20-team tournament, as well as Pakistan's decision to boycott their T20 World Cup match against India.
After Pakistan threatened to not play India in the group stage, the former captain of England had asked whether the ICC would handle India in a World Cup boycott situation in the same manner.
“If India, a month before a tournament, said ‘our government does not want us to play in a country for a World Cup’, would the ICC have been so firm and said, ‘You know the rules, bad luck, we’re knocking you out?’," Hussain was quoted as saying on the Sky Sports Cricket podcast.
“The only question all sides ask for is consistency. Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India must be treated the same. Yes, India fans may say, ‘Cry more, we have the money!’ But with power comes responsibility. Constantly knocking Bangladesh or Pakistan diminishes their cricket. That’s why the great games between India and Pakistan or India and Bangladesh have become one-sided over time," he had added.
A stellar lineup of current and former greats, including former T20 World Cup winners Aaron Finch, Dinesh Karthik, Kumar Sangakkara, Samuel Badree, Robin Uthappa, and Carlos Brathwaite on the commentary panel, is led by Ravi Shastri, Ian Smith, and Ian Bishop.
