Indian Test captain Shubman Gill has backed the No.3 batter Karun Nair to come out well after getting his chances on the England tour. Notably, Nair has made a Test comeback after the gap of eight years, but couldn’t live up to the expectations.

While he was part of all three concluded Tests in the ongoing five-match series against England, he could score only 131 runs with his scores reading 0, 20, 31, 26, 40, and 14. While he has been able to get the starts, he has failed to convert them into bigger knocks.

“We think he is batting well. First match, he didn't play at his number. No issues with his batting. Once you are able to get to 50 and get in the zone. We are hopeful that he can turn it around,” Shubman Gill said at the pre-match press conference.

Furthermore, Gill also opened up about the injuries Team India is suffering from before heading to the Manchester Test, scheduled to start on Wednesday, July 23. Interestingly, India will be without Akash Deep, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Arshdeep Singh.

While Akash has been suffering from a back injury, Nitish has been ruled out of the tour with a serious knee injury. On the other hand, Arshdeep injured his bowling hand in the nets session. However, Gill is confident of Indian bowlers taking 20 wickets in the Manchester Test.

“Never easy when there's a bit of injuries going around in the squad. Nitish is gonna miss out the series and Akash is also unavailable for this next match, and so is Arshdeep. But I think we have got enough good players in the team to be able to firstly get 20 wickets. That's been the most challenging part of the series. But I think, looking at the weather, it should be a good game,” he added.
