With less than two weeks till the highly anticipated T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan, the impasse between the PCB and the ICC is predicted to result in more pyrotechnics because the two boards are at opposing ends of the spectrum. Pakistan has withdrawn from the match against India on February 15, but the ICC wants the PCB to reevaluate its decision because failing to do so could result in fines.

Fittingly, Pakistan's government made the statement on Sunday, serving as a reminder that this incident is much more than just a cricket match. The government allowed the national team's participation in this month's T20 World Cup, but with a big disclaimer, according to a post on X.

Pakistan's declaration infuriated the ICC, which ordered the PCB to reevaluate its position in light of the decision's potential long-term effects on cricket in Pakistan.

The PCB may potentially be subject to severe financial penalties as a result of the ruling. The ICC may take into consideration a number of sanctions for PCB's actions, ranging from excluding foreign players from participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to levying hefty fines.

A report claims that PCB's "boycott" has little support within the ICC and that they will probably lose their revenue share. Pakistan's bilateral accords may also be affected, according to the article.

“PCB will be made to bear the losses for their no-show,” a source told Hindustan Times.

“The PCB has no backers in the ICC. Not only do they stand to lose their share from ICC revenue based on their hardline stance, it will be difficult to secure NOCs for overseas players from various countries for the Pakistan Super League. PCB's bilateral agreements with various cricket boards will come under strain.”

No international match between India and Pakistan has been cancelled as of yet, despite tense relations between the two countries following the terrorist events in Pahalgam last year. The senior men's and Under-19 teams played each other frequently, including in their respective Asia Cups. However, this notorious first could put the PCB in a terrible position once they announced their decision to "not take the pitch" in Colombo.
