An unknown squad member was reportedly fined for allegedly misbehaving with a female hotel staff member during the team's stay in Kandy, Sri Lanka, sparking a new issue in Pakistani cricket following a miserable T20 World Cup campaign.

The controversy emerged shortly after Pakistan's poor campaign, in which they defeated Sri Lanka by five runs in their final Super Eight match but were unable to advance to the quarterfinals due to a lack of net run-rate. Discussions about previous disputes involving Pakistani touring teams have also been rekindled by the episode.

The incident, which is thought to have happened just before Pakistan's final Super Eight match against Sri Lanka, has been discreetly discussed in Pakistani cricket circles ever since.

The incident happened at the Golden Crown Hotel, where Pakistan's team was lodging during the competition, according to a report from Telecom Asia Sport.

Before Pakistan’s last Super Eight match against Sri Lanka, a Pakistan World Cup squad player misbehaved with a female housekeeping staff,” sources told Telecom Asia Sport.

The report added that the staff member “shouted and called for help, after which hotel staff came for her rescue and reported the matter to Pakistan team manager Naveed Cheema.”

According to reports, senior Golden Crown Hotel administrators wanted the athlete to face severe consequences. However, Cheema effectively resolved the matter internally at the time by offering an apology to the hotel management on the cricket player's behalf and imposing a punishment for the transgression.

Even if the player's identity has not been made public, the situation is far from resolved, and after they return home, they are certain to come under more scrutiny. According to the article, the player might be called before the Pakistan Cricket Board's disciplinary committee, which has the authority to impose further penalties.

There have been instances of Pakistani players and support staff misbehaving with females on tour. According to the story, batter Haider Ali was detained by Manchester Police last year on a Pakistan Shaheens tour of England on suspicion of rape; however, he was later freed because there was not enough proof.

Malang Ali, the team masseuse, was allegedly punished in a previous episode for misbehaving with a female employee while on a tour of Malaysia.
