Pakistan’s T20I and ODI squads for WI tour announced; veteran player returns

PCB announced Pakistan’s T20I and ODI cricket squads for the West Indies tour, with veteran pacer Shaheen Afridi returning after missing the Bangladesh series.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the T20I and ODI squads for the upcoming West Indies tour, scheduled to start on Thursday, July 31. In an interesting turn of events, the veteran pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has returned to the squad after being axed from the recently concluded Bangladesh tour, which Pakistan lost by 1-2.

“Mohammad Rizwan will lead Pakistan in the three-match ODI series against West Indies as the Men’s National Selection Committee named a 16-member ODI squad on Friday. The series will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad & Tobago on 8, 10 and 12 August,” PCB said in its statement.

“Right-handed batter Hasan Nawaz is the only uncapped player in the ODI squad, while Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi are part of the ODI squad,” the statement read.

Notably, Pakistan will also play three T20Is against the West Indies, scheduled on 31 July, 2 and 3 August, at the Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, USA. With the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh coming to an end, Pakistan will arrive in the USA on Sunday, 27 July.
