Vishal Nishad, the newest member of the Punjab Kings, is eager to establish himself as he gets ready for this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) debut. The 20-year-old had an open discussion with the club during the Udaipur preseason camp, sharing details about his upbringing and life experiences.
The sportsman, who views Virat Kohli as his idol, was described in an NDTV story as disclosing a special celebration that would be held if he succeeded in taking Kohli out. "If I take his wicket, I'll touch his feet because he's my idol. My idol is Virat Kohli. I am inspired by his attitude and his drive; he's my favourite," Vishal added.
The 20-year-old young player, who was acquired by the Shreyas Iyer-led team in the mini-auction prior to the forthcoming season, talked openly about his respect for Kohli and his ideal big-stage moment.
Nishad highlighted how the former India captain shaped his cricketing aspirations by stating that Kohli's approach and desire have had a significant impact on his career. Nishad gave a modest and considerate response when asked how the young player would celebrate if he succeeded in taking Kohli out.
The youngster then talked about his family's sacrifices and recalled the days he used to assist his father with his work.
“There were tough times. I used to go with my father and help him [with work]. I even thought I’d quit cricket,” he said. “My mother told me to leave it and learn something else because becoming a cricketer is so difficult. But I didn’t give up. I told her, ‘Mom, I will definitely do it.’ Once they saw my resolve, my family stood behind me,” he said.
Vishal Nishad will make his IPL debut in the next season. He has, however, performed admirably on India's domestic cricket scene, which is the reason Punjab made the investment. In 2024, for example, Nishad played four games for the Gorakhpur Lions in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League, giving up 98 runs and taking seven wickets.
