On Friday, October 25, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), in a unique move, appointed its Test captain, Shan Masood, as a consultant for international cricket and players' affairs. Interestingly, this is the first time an active Test captain has been appointed to a position on the board.

Notably, Masood is currently leading the Pakistan Test team in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2025-27) cycle. He has played 44 Tests, nine ODIs, and 19 T20Is for the Men In Green, scoring 3108 international runs, which includes six Test centuries.

"The PCB has appointed left-handed batter Shan Masood as Consultant International Cricket and Players' Affairs. The 36-year-old has featured in 44 Tests, nine ODIs and 19 T20Is, scoring 3,108 international runs, including six Test centuries. Shan has also captained Pakistan in 14 Tests, including the recently concluded two-match ICC World Test Championship series against South Africa. Under his leadership, Pakistan defeated England 2-1 last year, their first Test series win against England on home soil since 2005," the PCB said in their official release.

According to ESPNCricinfo, the previous Director of International Cricket was Usman Wahla, appointed in May 2023, and he was suspended from the role in September 2025 due to undisclosed reasons.

Also, the report mentioned that Masood and the players were informed of his new role at a dinner reception hosted by the Prime Minister in honour of the visiting South African side. Pakistan's next Test assignments are a two-match series against Bangladesh and the West Indies in 2026, before a three-match tour of England in the second half of next year.
