Playing for India has been my dream: PBKS finisher Shashank Singh

Punjab Kings finisher Shashank Singh has opened up on his aspirations of making it to the Indian team in the future. Notably, Shashank amassed 350 runs for PBKS in the IPL 2025 season at an average of 50 with three fifty-plus scores.

Speaking exclusively to India Today, Shashank revealed that his performances, abilities and match-winning impacts could be the reasons why he should be a part of the Indian T20I team in the near future. 

"I focus on competing with myself. When I measure myself against my own standards, there’s no limit to what I can achieve. I let my performances, abilities, and match-winning impacts speak for why I should be in the Indian team, rather than comparing myself to others," Shashank said while speaking to India Today.

Furthermore, Shashank stated that he is confident of representing the Indian team and revealed that playing for India has been his dream since he started playing the game on a professional level. 

While Singh started his IPL journey with SRH, playing five innings and scoring 69 runs in IPL 2022, he was later picked by PBKS in the IPL 2024 auction. In IPL 2024, he amassed 354 runs in 14 innings at an average of 44.25.

Later, ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Shashank emerged as one of the two uncapped players to be retained. Though the finisher played an exceptional knock in the IPL 2025 Final, RCB went on to lift the title after winning by six runs.

"Playing for India has been my dream since I started professional cricket—back in my under-16 and under-19 days, when my father gave me my first bat to play. Yes, I’m close now and knocking on the door, but when the opportunity comes, I don’t know. I’m not afraid of competition. I’ve proven myself in cricket, and I believe the right moment will come when skill and luck align, and the selectors see me as the right fit. One thing I can assure is that I will be there," he concluded.
