Prasidh Krishna reveals the sledging conversation with Joe Root

On the second day of the Oval Test, England talismanic batter Joe Root and Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna involved in an exciting bat and ball contest. While Root came out to bat in the 22nd over of the first innings, Prasidh disturbed the batter with his near perfect lines and lengths.

Interestingly, Prasidh also tried to unsettle the England No.4 batter by trying to sledge him. However, things turned out drastically as Root, in return, started abusing the pacer, which Prasidh didn’t expect.

In the post-day chat, Prasidh has revealed the conversation he had with Root. Though he didn’t expect abusive words from the English batter, Prasidh heaped praise him, stating he is a legend of the game.

"I don't know why Rooty [reacted]. I just said, 'you're looking in great shape' and then it turned into a lot of abuse and all of that,” Prasidh Krishna told the BBC's Test Match Special.

"That was the plan. But I didn't expect the couple of words that I said to get such a big reaction from him. But, I love the guy that he is. He is a legend of the game and it's great when two people are out there wanting to do their best," he added.

"It's a very small thing. It was just the competitive edge among us that was coming out. Both of us are good mates off the field. It was just a little bit of banter and both of us enjoyed it," he stated.

At 92/0 in 12.4 overs in the first innings, England looked all set to bag a massive lead. However, the pace trio of Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj turned the tables as England got bundled out for 247 runs in 51.2 overs. Talking about the turnaround, Prasidh revealed the reason.

"As a team, we knew what happened before lunch. The three fast bowlers, we got together in a small corner and said, what's happened has happened. All of us know what we need to be doing. We trust each other and tell one another if someone is not on the right track. We spoke about the same thing,” Prasidh concluded.
