Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta took to X (Formerly Twitter) to slam the third umpire for his costly blunder in the 66th match of the IPL 2025 season between the Punjab Kings and the Delhi Capitals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday, May 24.
Notably, Punjab Kings suffered a six-wicket loss to the Delhi Capitals in the last over of the contest. Currently, the Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings are in the top two positions.
Preity Zinta, who was watching the match from the stands, stated that the costly error from the third umpire played a crucial role in the result. Moving into the details of the incident, in the 15th over of the first innings, PBKS batter Shashank Singh smacked Delhi pacer Mohit Sharma for a six.
On the boundary rope, fielder Karun Nair touched the ball and pushed it inside the boundary rope. Interestingly, Nair signalled that it was a six as his foot touched the rope. However, the third umpire had multiple visuals in replays and found no evidence of his foot touching the rope and it was signalled as one run eventually.
Zinta, who spoke to Karun after the match, stated that even the fielder said it was six and not a single run.
"In such a high profile tournament with so much technology at the Third Umpire's disposal such mistakes are unacceptable & simply shouldn't happen. I spoke To Karun after the game & he confirmed it was DEFINITELY a 6 ! I rest my case ! #PBKSvsDC #IPL2025," Preity Zinta wrote on X.
