Rajasthan Royals’ former co-owner, Raj Kundra, threatens to expose financial misconduct

Rajasthan Royals (RR) had a disastrous IPL 2025 campaign as they finished in ninth position with just eight points from 14 games, with a net run rate of -0.549. But now, their former co-owner, Raj Kundra, has threatened on social media that he will soon expose some serious financial misconduct by releasing documented evidence.

He also mentioned that money has been laundered through offshore structures and hidden transactions involving a key promoter of the franchise. In his post, Kundra wrote: “I will soon be releasing documented evidence exposing serious financial misconduct, money laundering through offshore structures and hidden transactions involving a key promoter of the Rajasthan Royals. This includes willful suppression of co-promoter rights and entitlements, pattern of deceit and manipulation in shareholder dealings. The truth will be shared soon, and the documents will speak for themselves."

From 2009 to 2015, both Raj Kundra and his wife, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, were associated with RR. They held a minority 11.7% stake in the franchise, but due to Kundra’s involvement in the 2013 IPL betting scandal, he has been barred from cricket-related activities since 2015.

Hence, after going through such a horrible IPL season, the way this announcement came up out of nowhere has raised some eyebrows. Especially for RR fans, as despite their full support on many occasions throughout the season, RR failed to cross the finish line. But now, all eyes are on 2 June, as Kundra has claimed he will go public with the required documents, though the venue is yet to be announced.

Talking about RR, it was a horrible season, especially considering the way they had to deal with injuries. Their regular skipper, Sanju Samson, failed to play all games due to injury concerns, and hence, they had to appoint Riyan Parag as their stand-in skipper. Jofra Archer was looking in good rhythm, but by the end of the league stage, he also suffered an injury.

Therefore, with the way they performed and the injuries they had to deal with, it was a season to forget for RR fans. Now, their focus should be to make a strong comeback in the next season, but before that, this sudden threat from their former co-owner could have a huge impact.
