Former Indian spinner and analyst Ravi Ashwin has heaped praise on Indian Test skipper Shubman Gill for his idea of having a 15-day camp before a Test series. Notably, Gill recommended to the BCCI that the Indian Test players should have long camps before the start of the Test series to adjust to the format and conditions.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin, who liked the idea, has given the example of England adjusting to the Australian conditions after playing a total of three Tests to win the fourth Test in Melbourne in the ongoing Ashes 2025-26 campaign.

"Whosever idea it is of a 15-day camp before a Test series, I like it. If you have such a camp, the odds are that you will get in, even now there are conversations that England's preparation for the Ashes was not bang on, England were looking ready in Australia after three Tests, many times when we go on a tour, even after a lot of preparation we don't play practice matches but we play a lot of centre wicket practice and even after that it will take you a Test or two to get into the series, so I think this 15-day camp will put you into that Test mindset and that Test habits. I really like the idea," Ravi Ashwin said on 'Ash ki Baat'.

"Can you do it in today's calendar? I feel that if the intent is there, you can definitely do it. You can prioritise it. This is a thought that is definitely placed in the right place, so I really like the idea," he added.

"Between Test and T20, here is a big jump. That adaptation is required. If this 15-day camp can be implemented, I think we can find a huge difference. There is no lack of talent in the Indian team. They just need to switch on tactically, strategically, and mentally. And for that, this camp will definitely be useful," he concluded.

Interestingly, the 15-day camp recommendation came right after India’s two consecutive Test series whitewashes to SENA nations at home. While they suffered a 0-3 Test series whitewash to New Zealand in 2024, they lost to South Africa by 0-3 last year.
