Ravichandran Ashwin announced his international retirement last year in December in the middle of the Australia tour. He didn’t have a great Indian Premier League (IPL) season, playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and subsequently, he retired from the T20 extravaganza as well recently.

Ashwin had already made it clear that he will explore playing opportunities in the other T20 leagues and reportedly, he is in line to play in the Big Bash League and ILT20. However, before that, the legendary off-spinner will be in action in the Hong Kong Sixes tournament for the Indian team in November.

The tournament is set to play from November 7 to 9 this year and Ashwin is set to be part of the Indian team. Cricket Hong Kong confirmed the development on its social media handle X.

“Legendary Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin ( @ashwinravi99 ) is set to light up Hong Kong! He’ll be a key part of Team India at the @hongkongsixes 2025, happening from 7–9 November. Fans will get the rare chance to watch Ashwin’s wizardry in the fastest, most entertaining format of the game. Get ready, Hong Kong—the stage is set for a cricketing spectacle!” the social media post read.

What is Hong Kong Sixes tournament?

For the unversed, the Hong Kong Sixes tournament is a short six-a-side cricket competition, and is organised by Cricket Hong Kong. The popular format made a comeback last year after a seven-year hiatus and will be played this year as well. It features unique rules, different from the regular T20 tournaments, such as a batter retiring after scoring fifty runs, and every fielder bowling one over.

India also featured in the competition last year with players like Robin Uthappa, Manoj Tiwary, Kedar Jadhav and Shahbaz Nadeem among others taking part. India faced Pakistan and the UAE in the group stage but lost both matches. Overall, they played five matches, facing England, New Zealand and Oman as well in the Bowl group but lost all of them to finish last among all teams.
