Former Indian head coach and commentator Ravi Shastri has heaped praise on the Indian Test captain Shubman Gill, who recently steered India to a series-levelling 2-2 scoreline against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
Gill, who batted at the No.4 batting position, went on to accumulate 754 runs from 10 innings at an average of 75.4 with three centuries and a double century, broke multiple records in the longest format of the game.
While speaking on Sky Sports, Shastri asserted that Gill would be in and around international cricket for a long time, and the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy will help him in the long run.
"He'll be around for a long, long time because we've seen what kind of series he's had here. I think he's only 25 years of age, and as you know, with this exposure, he'll get even better," Shastri told Sky Sports.
Moreover, Shastri also asserted that Gill was composed and very regal throughout the series whenever he came out to bat, adding that the way he bats is very pleasing and fluent to the eye. He would be next seen captaining the North Zone team in the Duleep Trophy 2025-26 campaign.
"He's right up there, he will be up there. He's composed, he's very regal, he's got that, you know, when you look at him, there's something regal about him. The way he bats, he's very easy on the eye, very fluent, and he has the ability to play the long innings," said Shastri.
After the conclusion of the Duleep Trophy 2025-26 season, Gill might be seen playing the Asia Cup 2025 campaign. However, Gill is expected to play under Suryakumar Yadav, quashing the rumours of him becoming the limited-overs captain.
