Former Indian coach and commentator Ravi Shastri has heaped praise on the Indian opening batter Abhishek Sharma, who is entering the T20I series vs Australia on the back of an exceptional Asia Cup 2025 campaign.
Notably, Abhishek Sharma accumulated 314 runs in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2025 campaign with 314 runs, winning the player of the tournament award, propelling India to a title win over Pakistan.
"He’s a gun T20 player. If he’s in for a while, there’s guaranteed entertainment. Irrespective of whether you’re Australian or Indian, you’ll enjoy it. He has the ability to take the game away from you. You don’t want him out there too long because he can create chaos," Shastri said on Fox Cricket.
For the unversed, Abhishek Sharma has played 24 T20Is, scoring a total of 849 runs. He has two centuries and five fifties under his name so far at an explosive strike-rate of 196.07. Moreover, the opening batter would be eyeing to reach the 1000-run mark in T20Is in the upcoming Australia series.
"His preparation, his belief in his own ability, the range of shots that he has, and then the mindset to go out there and back himself from ball one. From the get-go, he’ll go after the bowling. That’s where he can be extremely dangerous, very explosive, and quietly confident about his own ability," Shastri stated.
The first match of the five-match T20I series between India and Australia will be played at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Wednesday, October 29.
India T20I squad: Suryakumar Yadav (c), Shubman Gill (vc), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Sanju Samson (wk), Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar.
