RCB’s IPL title victory will always be marred by the loss of the lives: Robin Uthappa

Former Indian keeper-batter Robin Uthappa has opened up on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lifting the IPL title for the first time in 18 years after defeating the Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in the grand finale of the IPL 2025 season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3.

Uthappa stated that the RCB IPL title celebrations will always be remembered and marred by the loss of lives. Notably, a stampede situation at the Chinnaswamy stadium on Wednesday, June 4, left 11 people dead during the team’s title celebrations in the city.

"The victory will always be marred by the loss of the lives of people involved. It is so unfortunate that they can't even celebrate the win that they have achieved after so many years, after so much of hard work,” Robin Uthappa said on his YouTube channel.

"It is going to be marred by this and so you got to feel sad for the fans and of course for the players," he added.

"I was angry for almost a day and I really delayed even putting anything out on social media because I was so angry. In a sense, we were talking about a modicum of balance during the rivalries bit right? One can understand that in the celebrations,” he observed.

Moreover, Uthappa stated that the franchise should’ve waited for at least a day or two before going ahead with the celebrations in the city. Notably, teams like Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings took at least two days’ time for their title celebrations.

"You really want people to get close to the team and celebrate with them. I certainly think it could have been better planned, maybe take a day off to just plan the whole event because the city did deserve it, to be very honest," Uthappa concluded.
