After Saturday's second T20 International match against Zimbabwe, senior all-rounder Sikandar Raza made history by smashing Virat Kohli's massive record. Raza is one of the most consistent players in world cricket, but his performances often go unnoticed. However, his record speaks volumes about his contribution to Zimbabwe cricket.
In the second Twenty20 International of the series, Zimbabwe shocked Sri Lanka by winning the game by five wickets. The Lankan hitters were unable to establish any kind of domination because of the hosts' excellent start with the ball.
The 39-year-old cricket player was instrumental in Zimbabwe's victory over Sri Lanka in Harare on Sunday, which saw them win by five wickets. Raza took three wickets for 11 runs in four overs during the match in which Zimbabwe bowled Sri Lanka out for just 80 runs in 17.4 overs. He received the record-breaking Player of the Match award for his outstanding performance with the ball.
Because of his exceptional performance, Sikandar Raza was chosen Player of the Match. His 17th Player of the Match victory put him ahead of Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli. He now holds the number 1 spot among full-member nations' players with the most POTM accolades in T20Is. Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli have both taken home the trophy 16 times.
Raza is now ranked second, just behind Malaysia's Virandeep Singh, in the overall list of players with the most POTM awards in the T20I format. In the 102 T20Is that he has played for Malaysia thus far, Virandeep has won 22 POTM accolades.
“Very chuffed. We kept saying we are close to playing good cricket, it is nice to be on the other side of the result. There is a sigh of relief for everybody. We were a little upset with the losses, we were getting close but not crossing the line, the beauty of today was we were clinical,” Raza said in the post-match presentation.
