Gautam Gambhir reprimanded Morne Morkel

Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir's rigorous rules of discipline is not just limited to the Indian players but are also applicable to his coaching staff. According to a report, Gambhir reprimanded bowling coach Morne Morkel publicly when the latter was late to a practice session during the tour of Australia.

As per the report, Morkel was late due to a prior personal meeting and was confronted by Gambhir in front of the entire Indian team. This has reportedly caused a few differences between the duo that the board wants to be sorted out as soon as possible.

"Gambhir is very strict about discipline. He reprimanded Morkel immediately at the ground. The board has been told that Morkel was a bit reserved during the rest of the tour. It is up to these two to sort it out to allow the team to function smoothly," a BCCI source told TOI.

Gautam Gambhir's coaching staff to be evaluated after Australia tour

Batting coach Abhishek Nayar and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate are also set to be put under the scanner by the BCCI after India lost the Border Gavaskar Trophy 3-1 against Australia and also missed out on the World Test Championship final.

As per the source, batting coach Abhishek Nayar is under pressure and his future along with that of Ten Doeschate is set to be discussed.

"Batting coach Abhishek Nayar is particularly under the scanner. Gambhir himself has been an accomplished batter. The board has asked the players if Nayar is bringing anything new to the table. Similarly, Doeschate's role is being discussed. His lack of international experience and ability to contribute to enhancing an international cricketer's performance is being questioned," the source added.

India's next Test assignment will be against England in June. It will be interesting to see if there are any major changes made to the coaching staff after the Champions Trophy beginning next month.
