Reports: IPL 2025 to resume on Thursday or Friday

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials are aiming to resume the Indian Premier League 2025 season before next weekend, according to reports published on The Hindu website.

Moreover, the final decision will be announced in the next couple of days by the IPL Governing Council, provided the officials get the nod from the government. A BCCI official confirmed to The Hindu about resumption, “On Thursday or Friday.”

With the resumption likely to be very soon, the southern states of India would be picked to resume the IPL 2025 season for the remaining 12 group games and four playoff fixtures. While Eden Gardens in Kolkata was originally scheduled to host the final on May 25, we may see a change in the venue.

Venues in southern cities, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, would most likely be the venues for the remaining games. Moreover, Mumbai and Ahmedabad could also be the venues for the playoffs.

Another challenge for the BCCI is to complete the tournament before May 31, as the ICC World Test Championship Final between Australia and England is scheduled to start from June 11 at the home of cricket, Lord’s.

The biggest challenge would be to convince Australia and South African cricketers to extend their stay in the league as the WTC Final is nearing. Interestingly, some of the overseas cricketers, support staff members have already boarded flights for their respective countries.

Interestingly, the fixture between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals got called off due to the border tensions between India and Pakistan. However, the IPL Governing Council is in favour of replaying the game as both teams are yet to get the shared points in the updated standings.

Notably, PBKS were at 122/1 in 10.1 overs at the time of halt. While Priyansh Arya smacked 70 runs in 34 balls with five fours and six sixes, Prabhsimran Singh is still playing on 50* off 28 balls with seven fours.
