Harshit Rana is currently busy playing for the North Delhi Strikers in the ongoing Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025. He is also leading the side. However, the Team India pacer has managed a place in the announced 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. Under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy, Rana and others will look to do well in the competition.

But ahead of the tournament, in an exclusive chat with Sports Tak, Rana revealed his favourite captain—and it is not Suryakumar. The pacer named former Team India T20I and Test skipper, Rohit Sharma.

“Rohit bhai is my favourite captain. Compared to others, he is a very very smart captain,” he said.

Under Rohit’s captaincy, Rana has played six international matches so far (one Test and five ODIs). He went wicketless in the Adelaide Test against Australia, but in five ODIs, he has taken 10 wickets. Under Rohit’s guidance, when India won the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year, Rana was part of the squad.

Now, his focus shifts to the upcoming Asia Cup. Alongside him, both Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh are also part of the pace attack. This means Rana might struggle to find a place in the playing XI, but his off-cutters and variations could become vital on the traditionally slowish tracks in Dubai.

Harshit Rana has 12 wickets so far in nine matches of DPL 2025

Talking about his current form in the DPL 2025, Rana has taken 12 wickets in nine matches, placing him fourth in the race for the highest wicket-takers. His team, however, has struggled with just three wins, four losses, and two no-results. With eight points and a net run rate of -0.504, they currently sit in sixth place on the table.

All eyes will now be on Rana and his team to see where they finish. Individually, the pacer will want to end the tournament on a high, which will give him immense confidence heading into the Asia Cup. India’s Asia Cup 2025 campaign begins on September 10 against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Dubai. They are in the Group A along with the UAE, Oman, and arch-rivals, Pakistan.
