Rohit Sharma admits being lucky vs GT in Eliminator

Former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma opened up after his team bagged a 20-run win over the Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator of the IPL 2025 season at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, New Chandigarh on Friday, May 30.

Notably, Rohit Sharma was the wrecker-in-chief, scoring 81 runs in 50 balls with nine fours and four sixes as Mumbai Indians posted a daunting total of 228/5 in 20 overs after opting to bat first in the Eliminator.

In response, the Gujarat Titans could score only 208/6 in 20 overs. Sai Sudharsan was simply impressive with his 80-run knock off 49 balls with 10 fours and a six. Trent Boult scalped two important wickets to turn the tables for his side.

Ultimately, Rohit was adjudged the player of the match. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, the former India T20I skipper felt that he would have contributed more to the franchise this season as he managed to get only four fifties.

"I have got only four fifties and I definitely would've liked to get more. Today was a good day for us as a team. I do understand the importance of playing this Eliminator going through this and taking the next step forward. We are really proud of this performance," said Rohit Sharma in the post-match presentation.

Moreover, Rohit felt he was a bit fortunate to have his catches dropped by the fielders in the Eliminator, which turned out to be the major factor behind the defeat for the Titans. They will next take on the Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad on Sunday, June 1.

"To be honest, I have played all those shots in the game before and unfortunately, I have found fielders. Somewhere down the line, you got to be lucky. Today was the day for me. Those catches got dropped. But again, as I said, even after that, you need to keep the momentum going and score runs for your team. It was brilliant from our entire batting line-up to post that score on the board," Sharma added.
