Rohit Sharma can do much better than what he has done: Sourav Ganguly

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has a piece of advice for Rohit Sharma, who has been struggling to make runs of late in the red-ball format. Notably, Rohit could score only 31 runs in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series, raising the eyebrows of many.

According to the reports, Rohit Sharma is expected to continue as Test captain for the series against England away from home after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League 2025 season.

Interestingly, Rohit Sharma’s achievements in the white-ball formats in the last year were the main reason behind the BCCI and selection committee going ahead with Rohit Sharma as red-ball captain.

While praising Rohit’s white-ball skills as one of the greatest batters ever, Sourav Ganguly has urged the Indian skipper to give more priority to the red-ball format as the upcoming five-match Test series against England would offer a lot of seam and swing.

"What has surprised me is his form in the red ball over the last 4-5 years. A player of his stature and ability, he can do much better than what he has done. He must put on his thinking cap because we have 5 Tests against England and that's going to be another hard series. Just like the way it was in Australia. It's going to seam; it's going to swing. India needs him to perform in the red ball but in white ball, he is one of the greatest ever," Ganguly said during Trailblazers 3.0, by RevSportz.

"Leadership is very important. I have always said that Rohit Sharma is a fabulous captain. Because that's what I see, that's what I notice when he is captaining India. I've seen him captain Mumbai Indians. I have captained India for so many matches so I can see the traits in a captain."
