Rohit Sharma reveals his thoughts on taking against Australia in T20 World Cup 2024

November 19, 2023, is a date that most of the Indian cricket fans want to forget. Notably, Australia defeated India in the grand finale of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on this date at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as they went on to emerge as the world champions.

While India went on to make it to the final without losing a game in the mega event, they suffered a poor defeat in the grand finale against Australia, which turned out to be a major heartbreak for Indian fans.

However, a few months later, India avenged their ODI World Cup loss in the T20 World Cup 2024 when they defeated Australia in the Super 8 stage, with the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma finishing the game as the player of the match.

Rohit went on to smack 92 runs in 41 balls as India posted a daunting total of 205 runs in 20 overs. Australia ended the game with a 24-run defeat as Men In Blue turned out to be the eventual champions after defeating South Africa in the final.

"The anger was always there. It was in the back of my mind. Inhone hamaara 19 November kharaab kar diya, humaara nahi poore desh ka (They ruined November 19 for us. Not only for us, but also for the entire country). We should reserve something for them. We should also give them a nice gift. You have such thoughts in your mind," Rohit told Star Sports on the ’Champions Waali Feeling Phir Se’ episode.

In that particular encounter, Rohit smacked Mitchell Starc for 29 runs in the third over of the innings. Rohit stated that the whole team wanted Australia to be knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2024.

"But when you're batting, you're not thinking, 'I want to knock them out of the tournament'. Yes, in the dressing room we keep talking about these things. There's that kind of fun that, yes, inko bahar karte hai, maza aayega (let's knock them out, it'll be fun)," Rohit stated.
