Rohit Sharma’s childhood coach, Dinesh Lad, has revealed that the Indian opening batter and former Indian skipper Rohit would retire from the One Day format after playing the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Notably, Rohit Sharma ended the three-match ODI series against Australia with the player of the series award and player of the match award in the third ODI, courtesy of his 121-run unbeaten knock in Sydney.

"The way Rohit batted today and how he contributed to India's win it felt great to watch today's match. He will play the 2027 ODI World Cup and retire after that," Dinesh Lad said.

Following two ducks against Australia in the Perth and Adelaide ODIs, Virat Kohli made a strong comeback with an unbeaten 74-run knock in the Sydney ODI. Speaking on the same, Lad asserted that there are misunderstandings about Kohli every day.

"There are misunderstandings about Virat every day. He is someone who can thrive anytime and anywhere. The way he played today, it feels good. Sachin had said in a function way back that Rohit and Virat would be the players who would break his records. Both getting closer to his records feels really good," he added.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma, after winning the POTM and POTS awards, has asserted that he had a good preparation time before travelling to Down Under for the three-match ODI series.

“I haven't played for a long time. I had good prep before coming in here. I was slightly confident in my head about how I would go in this tournament. Although you know, we couldn't win the series, but we'll take a lot of positives,” Rohit stated after the third ODI.

Rohit and Kohli will be next seen in the three-match ODI series against South Africa at home. The first ODI between India and South Africa is set to be played on November 30 in Ranchi.
