Former Indian badminton star Saina Nehwal has revealed that Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s younger son, Akaay Kohli, “likes to play” cricket. In an interview with Filmigyan, Saina spoke about her interactions with top athletes and the usual conversations they share — from sports to family life.

During the chat, she recalled a moment with Virat Kohli, saying the former India skipper may have told her that his younger son is already enjoying the game. “He was saying that maybe his boy likes to play,” she said.

However, both Virat and Anushka have always been firm about keeping their children away from media attention. The couple has consistently requested privacy and has avoided revealing their kids’ faces in public. Naturally, this small detail shared by Saina about Akaay has sparked excitement among fans.

Meanwhile, Virat is preparing for the upcoming home ODI series against South Africa, starting November 30, 2025. He recently featured in a three-match ODI series in Australia, where he had a tough start with back-to-back ducks in the first two games.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are reportedly to be asked to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy in December 2025

However, he bounced back strongly in the third ODI, scoring an unbeaten 74 and putting together a match-winning 168-run partnership with Rohit Sharma. India successfully chased down 237 with nine wickets in hand and 11.3 overs to spare.

With Virat already retired from Tests and T20Is, ODIs remain the only format where fans can still see him represent India. However, discussions around his long-term ODI future continue, especially with the focus slowly shifting toward the 2027 ODI World Cup.

After the South Africa series, India’s next ODI assignment is in January 2026 against New Zealand. Reports suggest that both Virat and Rohit Sharma might be asked to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy in December 2025 to showcase form and preparation.

After the ODI series in Australia, Team India ODI captain Shubman Gill was asked about the possibility of seniors featuring in domestic cricket. Gill said: “Right now, we haven't had any discussions. There's not much gap left for the South Africa series. There's a bit of a gap between the South Africa and New Zealand series. We will have discussions after the South Africa series, and we will decide on how to keep the players in touch.”
