“What after Fab 4 of what after Virat Kohli is an irrational fear” - Sanjay Manjrekar’s brutal take on post-Kohli panic

There have been a lot of talks on how Team India would respond to the retirements of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravi Ashwin from the longest format of the game. Notably, the veteran duo of Kohli and Rohit announced their Test retirements ahead of the England tour.

With the new World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle starting, the BCCI selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, appointed the Indian top-order batter Shubman Gill as the new Test captain with Rishabh Pant being his deputy.

However, Indian batters reacted sharply with multiple centuries in the Leeds Test. While Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Indian opener, started off the Test with an exceptional century, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant also joined the queue in the first innings with their tons.

Later in the second innings, Indian opener KL Rahul also continued his brilliance, scoring an exceptional century. Moreover, Pant was at his best, scoring his second century of the game to bring up two centuries, the first by an Indian in England.

Reacting to the same, the former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar stated that despite the retirements of major players, cricket would remain the No.1 sport in a country like India. 

He also stated there shouldn’t be any talks of who would take up the sport and replace the Fab 4 or who will take the place of Virat Kohli. Instead, this will create a big opportunity for youngsters to step up and take these opportunities.
