Regarding India's roster for the Test series against England, Shashi Tharoor expressed his opinion that it is challenging for a selector to choose the best team. According to the Indian Member of Parliament, Sarfaraz Khan's run totals in domestic cricket and the India A series against the England Lions made him deserving of a spot in the Indian team.
Despite Kohli's recent retirement, Sarfaraz lost the middle-order contest, creating a void in the batting order. Instead, Sarfaraz had to settle for a position on the India A squad. After hitting 92 runs in Canterbury's maiden unofficial Test match against the England Lions, he made a big impression.
According to Tharoor, it was illogical to exclude a player of Khan's calibre from the team. In the absence of seasonal stars like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the political leader felt compelled to give newcomers an opportunity. Sarfaraz was left out of the squad against England because, according to Tharoor, he did not have any opportunities during the series against Australia.
Sarfaraz Khan gets a big support:
RevSportz quoted Tharoor saying, "It's a tough call for any selector, but I must say that we all have our favourites who ought to be there. I think that young Sarfaraz has done far too well in the domestic circuit to be left out. Given no opportunity in Australia, given one innings here where he made a big score in the nineties, and then was not played again. Rumours are that he did very well in the warm-up match against the regular Indian side."
He further said, "Why do they leave out a player of this quality? It makes no sense. I think we should now give people a chance, we've lost the greats of Rohit and Virat one after the other, so we really need to have fresh young blood for the next two years ahead, who have done well and proven themselves over and over again, like Sarfaraz has."
Sarfaraz had to wait a long time to make his debut for his country. Under the leadership of recently chosen captain Shubman Gill, India begins their new WTC cycle with a five-match away series. India's most recent red-ball cricket match was against Australia in January during the Sydney Test. Several members of the present squad, such as Sai Sudharsan and Yashasvi Jaiswal, will play in their first Test series in England. The four-day intra-squad warm-up competition between India and India A began on Friday in Beckenham.
