“Morne has been working with me” - Shivam Dube reveals Morne Morkel’s advice after his match-winning spell vs UAE in Asia Cup 2025

Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube, who attended the post-match press conference after the UAE game on Wednesday, September 10, has disclosed advice he has received from the bowling coach Morne Morkel.

Dube has revealed Morkel’s advice to keep the ball outside the off-stump, and he has also asserted that he has developed a slower delivery and worked on tweaking his run-up. Moreover, he stated that he was clear about his role way before the start of the game.

“Morne has been working with me since I came back into the Indian team for the England series. He has given me certain specific advice and I worked on them. He told me to bowl a line that is slightly outside the off-stump. He also worked with me in developing a slower delivery and tweaked my run-up a bit. The head coach and the skipper had told me that my bowling would have a role to play,” Dube said in the post-match press conference.

Also, Dube asserted that he has been putting a lot of hard work into his fitness for the past two months, adding that he has worked on tackling shorter deliveries with the willow in the middle and death overs.

“For the last two months, I have worked a great deal on my fitness. As far as my batting is concerned, I know I have a role to play (as a power-hitter) in the middle overs. I know over the years, bowlers targeted me with short balls, and I have worked on increasing my range of shots,” Dube stated.

When asked if the Indian team considered the UAE game as a warm-up match for the much-awaited Pakistan clash, Dube made it clear that no game is a warm-up fixture when representing the Indian team.

“Whenever we play for India, we don’t consider any match as a warm-up match. It’s about pride to play for the country. Be it against the UAE or Pakistan, every game is important for me. Gauti bhai always said this: Whenever you represent India, it is a chance to do something miraculous,” he concluded.
