Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube has revealed the valuable piece of advice he received from the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni while plying his trade for the Chennai Super Kings. Notably, Dube’s career took a strong turn after joining the CSK franchise under MS Dhoni.
After his match-winning knock against the Netherlands, Dube has disclosed Dhoni’s advice of hitting a boundary and taking a single, the strategy which worked for him pretty well in the shortest format of the game.
"Mahi bhai ne kaha tha zarrori nahi tumhe vo ball pe 6 marna hai tum. Tum boundary maaro, tum single lo. Toh voh cheez hamesha dimmag main thi ke start main aata hoon toh tap karne ka dekhta hoon. Agar accha ball dikh raha hai toh boundary jaat hai, yaa single lene ka yahi intent rehta hai. Depend karta hai situation, agar death overs main aa raha hoon toh marunga he but start main mera intent yahi rehta hai ki main boundary maru ya single karun," he said post-match during an interview with JioHostar broadcaster Parthiv Patel.
"Mahi bhai used to say that it’s not necessary to hit a six off every ball. You can hit a boundary, you can take a single. That always stayed in my mind. When I go in at the start, I look to just tap the ball and get going. If I see a good ball, it goes for a boundary, or I look to take a single. That’s always the intent. It depends on the situation; if I’m coming in during the death overs, then I will go for big shots. But at the start, my intent is usually to get a boundary or rotate the strike with singles.”
India will face South Africa in their first Super 8 Game on Sunday, February 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
